2025Penn Summer Opportunities and Funding Resources Fair

Penn offers MANY programs to help students connect with and fund summer internships and research experiences. Plan to attend this fair to talk with organizations coordinating, hosting or funding these opportunities. This fair is organized by Penn Career Services and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CURF).

2025 Emory Case Competition

Penn has been chosen to participate in the upcoming International Emory Global Health Case Competition. Students from multidisciplinary are encouraged. It is a fantastic opportunity for Penn students interested in global health. The Center for Global Health is collecting applications from interested students. Please share widely with your students and constituents.
This is a rewarding and practical experience that lends itself well to any career. Winning teams will receive generous prize packages: 1st Place $5000, 2nd Place $3000, 3rd Place $2000, 4th Place $1000, Participants’ Choice $500, and Honorable Mention $500.

Students interested in applying should send their CV and Statement of Interest (500 words max) to Maria Cortese Hering at maria.hering@pennmedicine.upenn.edu by January 27, 2025.

 

Penn Summer Abroad Programs

Now is the time to apply for Penn Summer Abroad! Earn 1-2 CU in London, Madrid, Tours, Cannes, Florence, or the Alps! Early application deadline: January 31st Final application deadline: February 15th Funding opportunities:

  • Tuition may be covered for highly aided students – check with your financial aid advisor.
  • Apply for the Levi Travel Fellowship to cover housing and program fees – deadline January 31.
  • Apply for the Lauder Study Abroad Fellowship for the Alps – deadline January 31.

Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Paideia Fellows Program creates and supports opportunities for fellows to learn about dialogue, and how to dialogue, towards a goal of individual and societal wellness. Management &Technology (M&T) Wharton Transfer Info Session

The Jerome Fisher Program in Management & Technology (M&T Program) is a highly competitive dual-degree program designed for students with interdisciplinary interests in business and technology and a desire to shape their own success. Accepted applicants are dually admitted to the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Fully matriculated Penn first years are eligible for transfer into the M&T Program. Penn students may only apply to transfer into M&T at the conclusion of their first year.

2025 Annual Wharton Undergraduate Healthcare Conference

Energy Week @Penn Poster Session

You are invited to participate in the 2025 Energy Week @Penn Poster Session. This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded peers and faculty, showcase and get feedback on your work, learn about the breadth of energy research happening at Penn, and get a free Energy Week t-shirt! If you would like to present a poster, register by Monday, January 27, 2025. All students and postdocs who have research related to energy are encouraged to participate. Poster presenters will be assigned an hour-long block where they are expected to be at their poster but are otherwise encouraged to visit other posters, network with the attendees, or enjoy some refreshments.

Scholarships & Grants Opportunities

 

Udall Scholarship

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors who are US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents and who are dedicated to leadership and public service in either of two areas:

  • Students from any ethnic background interested in conservation and environmental issues from any political perspective
  • Native Americans and Alaska Natives pursuing health-related careers or working on Tribal Policy

Each scholarship covers expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,000. Scholarship recipients are eligible for one year of scholarship support. Scholars selected during their sophomore year may be re-nominated during their junior year. Interested candidates should contact CURF by Friday, January 24, 2025, to obtain access to the Udall online application. Apply to be one of Penn’s nominees by Friday, February 7, 2025, at 4:00 pm.

Funded Research Opportunities for Faculty and Students

Interested in getting to know more funded Research opportunities? The Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships connects faculty and students in support of these transformative experiences through three signature funding opportunities for undergraduates:

Grants for Faculty Mentoring Undergraduate Research
Provides funding to offset expenses incurred in support of undergraduates doing research
Applications due Monday, January 20, 2025

Jumpstart for Juniors Program
Provides funding to both a student and a faculty mentor for a research project in the summer between a student’s third and fourth years
Applications due Monday, March 17, 2025

While these programs require the involvement of a standing faculty member, we welcome proposals from collaborative teams that include non-standing faculty.

Questions about any of these programs can be addressed to Ann Vernon-Grey in the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships.

Projects for Progress 2025

As an institution dedicated to addressing the world’s most intractable problems, Penn has established a fund to encourage students, staff, and faculty to design and implement pilot projects based on innovative research to advance our aim of a more inclusive society. We seek to seed impactful projects, grounded in outstanding Penn research, that will offer new ideas to enhance the quality of life for members of our Philadelphia community now and in the future. Project proposals from diverse teams—broadly conceived—will receive priority consideration.

Each winning team will receive up to $100,000 to implement their proposed initiative. Project proposals should be focused on making progress toward one or more of the following goals:

• Eradicating systemic racism
• Achieving educational equity
• Advancing environmental justice & sustainability
• Eliminating health disparities based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and/or social determinants of health

Penn/CASE Internship Opportunity

The Development and Alumni Relations working group is organizing the Penn/CASE 2025 Summer Internship Program. The group is committed to increasing and diversifying the number of professionals in educational advancement (i.e. fundraising, alumni relations, advancement services, communications, and marketing). The goal is to host 2-3 Penn undergraduate or graduate students for an on-campus internship this summer.
