Info Session: Bet on Entrepreneurship
The Bet on Entrepreneurship Program provides current first- and second-year undergraduates (i.e., College, Wharton, Nursing, and/or Engineering — Class of 2027 and 2028) at the University of Pennsylvania who identify as first-generation, and/or lower-income (FGLI) with the unique opportunity to participate in an entrepreneurship Spring-Term Bootcamp and a subsequent 5-week summer placement within a local Philadelphia-area startup.

Penn’s Climate Solution Showcase
Every day, in labs, offices, and studios around campus, members of the Penn community are part of the solution to the climate emergency. At this anchor event for Climate Week, hear from faculty and researchers from the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Weitzman School of Design about the technologies and designs they are innovating to create a safer, more resilient, more sustainable future.

Passport Drive
During the event, U.S. Department of State agents will be onsite to process passport applications, and eligible students will have the opportunity to receive a fully funded U.S. passport. If you know anyone who could benefit from this opportunity, please feel free to share! You can find more details about the Drive on our website: Passport Drive. Applications are open and will close once we reach 50 eligible applicants. Priority will be given to students receiving financial aid.

Penn Program for Public Service Summer Internship
Offered through the Netter Center, the Penn Program for Public Service summer internship is a full-time paid internship with one of Netter’s youth summer enrichment programs. Interns also take an 11-week Academically Based Community Service (ABCS) seminar (tuition cost covered by the Netter Center). Housing is provided. Early Application Deadline is Sunday, October 27, 2024. Regular Application Deadline is January 26, 2025. Applications involve submission of a resume, unofficial transcript, and personal statement. No letter of recommendation needed.

NASA’s Human Lander Challenge
NASA’s 2025 HuLC Competition asks student teams to develop innovative, systems-level solutions to understand, mitigate potential problems, and mature advanced cryogenic fluid technologies that can be implemented within 3-5 years. Students and their advisors should propose innovative solutions and technology developments addressing in-space cryogenic liquid storage and transfer systems for launch duration NASA missions to the moon.
Finalist teams receive a $9,250 stipend to facilitate participation in the 2025 HuLC Competition Forum in Huntsville, Alabama in June 2025! NOIs are non-binding, meaning teams do not need a fully developed concept to submit. Let us know your team is interested in participating by submitting a Notice of Intent (NOI) by 11:59 PM Eastern on Wednesday, October 16th! NOI submitters will be invited to participate in a virtual Q&A Session with HuLC’s NASA Sponsors on November 7th, 2025.

Join PCSSM for Climate Week at Penn!
The Penn Center for Science, Sustainability and the Media has many events going on during Climate Week at Penn happening October 14-18. We hope to see you there! Climate Innovation Challenge, an organization that connects students to collaborate on real-world challenges in the climate space, is hosting three workshops:
1. Collaborating for Climate – If you’re interested in learning about climate startups and how the public sector supports early-stage innovations, this would be a great panel to attend.
2. Interdisciplinary Innovation – Interactive workshop that explores how to better empower young people to take actions in the climate space.
3. Ecosystems Services & Regenerative Leadership – If you’re interested in biodiversity and leadership in climate, this is for you!

2024 Flu Clinic
Wellness at Penn’s annual Flu Clinic will be held from October 16-18, 2024 in the Pottruck Health & Fitness Center. All Penn students, faculty, postdocs, and staff are welcome to drop in for their free flu shot, and must bring their Penn Card.

Our logistics volunteers are crucial in making our clinic fun, easy to navigate, and successful and we would love to have you join us! As a logistics volunteer, you will be helping with a variety of clinic functions but will not be permitted to vaccinate, even if you are trained to do so.

Community Co-Working for Undergraduates
The goal of this program is to help students gain structure and accountability in getting their work done. These sessions are completely optional, and students are not required to sign up for all of the sessions. Students can attend any sessions they would like, but they do need to register (and they can register with the QR code on the attached flyer). Each session will be 2 ½ hours (10 minutes of intro/goal sharing, two 1-hour timed working sessions, a 10-minute wellness break in between the timed sessions, and a 5-minute wrap-up – with snacks provided:). The concept of body doubling for productivity is geared toward students with ADHD, but of course all students are welcome to attend.

Scholarships & Grants Opportunities
Penn Engineering is pleased to offer funding opportunities for high-tech projects and venture development. We are soliciting proposals for projects and venture concepts that might develop into companies, and these funds are available to help, the deadline is October 24, 2024:
Berkman Opportunity Fund ($500 or $1,000 per project)
The Berkman Opportunity Fund provides support for students (or teams of students) with innovative ideas that might turn into products and companies.
Miller Innovation Fellowship ($15,000 per venture)
Miller Innovation Fellowships are designed to allow students (or teams of students) that have made use of Penn’s innovation & entrepreneurship resources to further develop ventures based on high-tech products & services and to have focused capital and advising resources to explore a venture. Advancing In Principle and Practice – Down the Lightning Grants
The Office of the President and Office of the Provost invites the University community to propose projects that will advance In Principle and Practice, reflect the University’s distinctive identity and values, and help Penn build a better future for the world.
The University has set aside $2 million through the Fall of 2027 to fund these initiatives, with the expectation that successful programs will, in general, receive in-kind support from originating Schools, Centers, and Departments or additional financial support to supplement these central funds.
The program follows a two-stage application. Interested applicants should complete a short Proposal Form and submit it via this survey. The deadline for submitting initial proposals is Monday, October 28, 2024. To learn more about this opportunity, click here.

Entrepreneurship Fellows Program – Only 12 Students Get This Opportunity!
- Penn Engineering will welcome its 2025 cohort to the Entrepreneurship Fellows Program which offers an immersive tech startup experience like no other!
- Duration: January to December.
- Coursework: Spring and fall semesters with just 12 students. Earn 2 credits towards the Entrepreneurship minor/certificate.
- Paid Summer Internship: At tech startups in the northeast. Work directly with tech founders on strategic initiatives. Visit your cohort and learn from their experiences as well.
- Mentorship: Gain invaluable insights from venture capitalists and startup alumni.
